Encryption of transmitted data

To transmit your data securely, Yandex Mail uses encryption algorithms based on the SSL and TLS protocols. If data encryption isn't enabled in your email client settings, you won't be able to send and receive messages using this program.

Instructions for enabling encryption in various mail clients:

When enabling SSL-encoding in the mail client, you may get error messages about an invalid certificate. The main reasons for such errors and the troubleshooting procedures are provided in I get errors due to an invalid certificate.

Microsoft Outlook

  1. Go to File → Account settings, select an account in Email and click Change.
  2. Click the More Settings button.
  3. Go to the Advanced tab and specify the following settings, depending on the protocol you are using:
    IMAP
    • IMAP server993
    • SMTP server 465

    For the Use the following type of encrypted connection option, select SSL for the IMAP and SMTP servers.

    Click OK.

    POP3
    • POP3 server 995
    • SMTP server 465

    Select the option The server requires an encrypted connection (SSL). For the Use the following type of encrypted connection option, select SSL.

    Click OK.

  4. To finish account configuration, in the Change account window, click Next to test the account settings you have specified. If all the settings are correct and confirmed, click Finish. If not, make sure that all the details are entered properly.

Mozilla Thunderbird

  1. Right-click the account name and choose Settings.
  2. Go to the Server Settings section and specify the following settings, depending on the protocol you are using:
    IMAP
    • Connection security SSL/TLS
    • Port 993

    Click OK.

    POP3
    • Connection security SSL/TLS
    • Port 995

    Click OK.

  3. Go to the Outgoing Server (SMTP) section, select Yandex Mail, and then click Edit. In the SMTP server window, enter the following settings:
    • Port465;
    • Connection securitySSL/TLS

The Bat

  1. Open the menu Mailbox → Mailbox settings.
  2. Go to Transport and enter the following settings, depending on the protocol you are using:
    IMAP
    Sending mail
    • Port465;
    • ConnectionSecure connection via a dedicated port (TLS).
    Receive mail
    • Port993;
    • ConnectionSecure connection via a dedicated port (TLS).

    Click OK.

    POP3
    Sending mail
    • Port465;
    • ConnectionSecure connection via a dedicated port (TLS).
    Receive mail
    • Port995;
    • ConnectionSecure connection via a dedicated port (TLS).

    Click OK.

Opera Mail

  1. Click the icon in the mailbox name and choose Properties.
  2. Go to the Servers tab and specify the following settings, depending on the protocol you are using:
    IMAP
    IMAP server
    • Port number 993
    • Enable the Secure connection (TLS) option.
    Outgoing SMTP server
    • Port number 465
    • Enable the Secure connection (TLS) option.

    Click OK.

    POP
    Incoming POP server
    • Port number 995
    • Enable the Secure connection (TLS) option.
    Outgoing SMTP server
    • Port number 465
    • Enable the Secure connection (TLS) option.

    Click OK.

Apple Mail

  1. Open the menu Mail → Settings → Accounts → Account Information. In the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) section, select Edit list of SMTP servers.
  2. Select the Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) option and enter 465 in the Use specified port field.

    Click OK.

  3. Go to the Advanced tab and specify the following settings, depending on the protocol you are using:
    IMAP
    • Port993;
    • Select the option Use SSL.
    POP3
    • Port995;
    • Select the option Use SSL.

iOS

  1. Go to Settings → Mail, contacts, calendars.
  2. In the Accounts section, select your account.
  3. At the bottom of the page, click Advanced.
  4. In the Incoming settings section, specify the following settings, depending on the protocol you are using:
    IMAP
    • Select the option Use SSL.
    • Server port 993
    POP3
    • Select the option Use SSL.
    • Server port 995
  5. Go back to the Account menu, find the Outgoing mail server section, and select SMTP.
  6. In the Primary server section, click the row with the server smtp.yandex.ru.
  7. In the Outgoing mail server section, specify the following settings:
    • Select the option Use SSL.
    • Server port 465

    Click Done.

  8. Go back to the Account menu and click Done.

Android

  1. Open the Email program.
  2. Go to  → Settings.
  3. Select your account.
  4. In the Server settings section, click the line Incoming settings.
  5. Specify the following settings, depending on the protocol you are using:
    IMAP
    • Port993;
    • Security typeSSL/TLS

    Click Done.

    POP3
    • Port995;
    • Security typeSSL/TLS

    Click Done.

  6. In the Server settings section, click Outgoing settings.
  7. Set the following parameters:
    • Port465;
    • Security typeSSL/TLS

    Click Done.

Windows Phone

  1. Go to Settings → Email + accounts.
  2. Select your account
  3. At the bottom of the page, tap Advanced and set the following parameters, depending on the protocol you are using:
    IMAP
    • Incoming mail server — imap.yandex.com:993
    • Outgoing (SMTP) email server — smtp.yandex.com:465

    Select the options Require SSL for incoming email and Require SSL for outgoing email.

    Save changes.

    POP3
    • Incoming mail server — pop.yandex.com:995
    • Outgoing (SMTP) email server — smtp.yandex.com:465

    Select the options Require SSL for incoming email and Require SSL for outgoing email.

    Save changes.

Other

If you have a different email client, enable data encryption over SSL (TLS) in the settings both for receiving mail (IMAP or POP3) and sending mail (SMTP). Then, change the ports for connecting to the servers to the following values:

  • IMAP993
  • POP3995
  • SMTP 465
